When should you play Triple Captain?

The rule, exactly

Your captain scores 3× instead of 2× for one gameweek. Played on the Pick Team page, cancellable before the deadline, two per season with the usual halves — the first expires after Gameweek 18.

If your captain does not play, the armband — and the triple — passes to your vice-captain automatically, same as any other week.

The maths

The chip's value is exactly one extra captain score. A normal captain returning 8 becomes 16; tripled he becomes 24. So the question is never “who is my best player” — it is “which single fixture, all season, gives my best player his biggest score”.

Last season's best answer was obvious in hindsight: Kane returned 258 points across the season, roughly 7 a match — but his biggest single weeks came in home fixtures against the league's bottom three, where a double-digit haul tripled instead of doubled is a 10–15 point swing on one decision.

Double gameweeks change everything

When a club plays twice in one gameweek, its players' scores from both matches are captained. A tripled captain with two fixtures is the single biggest score available in this game, and it is worth holding the chip for — the five-league calendar produces these weeks naturally, and the fixture screen shows them forming a week or two ahead.
