Format and scope, not marketing. Checked August 2026. If something here has gone out of date, it is our mistake and we would rather know.

What Fantrax does better
Three things, stated plainly. If any of them is what you actually want, Fantrax is the right game for you and you should go and play it.
Draft kills the template.
Once your rival takes the obvious captain, he is gone. Nobody can own the same eleven players as everybody else.
Endlessly customisable.
Scoring, roster sizes, positions, dynasty rules — if you want to design your own game, this is the tool.
Trades and waivers.
A genuinely different weekly ritual, and better for a committed group.
The other side
Where this one wins
- It needs a committed group. Draft leagues want six to twelve people who show up every week for nine months. A dead draft league is a sad thing.
- Setup is a project. Commissioner settings, a draft date everyone can make, scoring arguments. Here you pick fifteen players and you are playing.
- No shared benchmark. Your score means something only inside your league. Here everyone plays the same game against the same overall table.
Both games are free to try and neither locks you out of the other. The honest recommendation for most people reading this page is to play both and drop whichever you stop opening.

Questions
Straight answers
Is Fantrax better than a budget fantasy game?
For a committed group, often yes — a draft means nobody can own the same players as everyone else, which is the single biggest complaint about budget games including ours. The catch is that draft leagues need six to twelve people who stay engaged for nine months.
What is the difference between draft and salary-cap fantasy football?
In a draft, each player belongs to exactly one manager in your league, so scarcity drives everything. In a salary-cap game like this one, everyone can own anyone and a shared budget is the constraint. Draft rewards depth of knowledge; salary-cap rewards judging value.
Can I play a draft league and a salary-cap game at the same time?
Yes, and they complement each other well. The draft is the one you argue about with a fixed group; the salary-cap game is the one you can join in five minutes and compare against everybody.
