The rule, exactly
Prices move once per gameweek, after the last fixture of that gameweek finishes, in steps of £0.1m. A player's price follows his recent form measured against players in the same price bracket — a £5.0m defender is judged against other £5.0m-ish defenders, not against Kane.
The market is zero-sum: across the whole game, rises and falls cancel out, so the market neither inflates nor deflates across a season. Nobody's team value grows just because everyone's does.
Injured players are frozen
A player who is injured and playing no minutes does not fall — his price is frozen in both directions until he is available again. You are never forced to sell an injured premium at a discount just to stop the bleeding; the decision stays a football decision.
What this means for you
Buying a player early, before his rise, is the only way to beat the market — you keep half of every step he climbs. Waiting for three good weeks of proof means paying for everyone else's homework.
And because form is judged within brackets, the biggest rises live in the cheap brackets, where one good month stands out most — exactly the players the value tables on each league page track.

How often do prices change?

Why isn't my injured player's price dropping?
Injured players who are playing no minutes are frozen — their price cannot move in either direction until they are available again. This is deliberate: it removes the panic-sell.
Can the whole market inflate over a season?
No. Price changes are zero-sum across the game — every rise is balanced by falls elsewhere — so total market value stays level and late joiners are not priced out.
How do I profit from price rises?
Buy before the rise and you keep half of every £0.1m step when you sell, rounded down. The rise itself also stretches your budget while you hold him.
